Nothing compares to the beauty and durability of hardwood floors. But they can take a beating—traffic in and out of the house, muddy pet paws, messy kids’ footprints. Sound familiar? Maintain your investment and keep your floors looking as good as the day they were installed with regular cleaning. Here’s how.

STEP #1: Remove Surface Dust

To keep your floors looking their best, sweep or vacuum at least once a week using an indoor broom and dustpan or a vacuum cleaner. This simple step removes routine dust, dirt and debris that collect over time. Look for brooms with angled bristles, like our Oskar Broom, as they easily capture dirt and dust, even in corners. Do not use beater bar attachments because they could damage your wood floor.

STEP #2: Deep Clean

Dusting alone can’t remove all the layers of dirt and grime that build up over time. Get your wood floors looking like new again with regular deep cleaning. Use a mop and bucket system with microfibre materials to achieve a truly deep clean. Check out our EasyWring RinseClean Spin Mop, which comes with a reusable microfibre mop pad and two-tank system that keeps your clean and dirty water separate.

STEP #3: Clean Wood Floors the Old School Way

First sweep or dust mop your floors, and then vacuum with the beater bar turned off to remove any dirt that can get caught between floorboards. Avoid steam mops because too much moisture and steam can result in a dull finish. If wood floors begin to lose their shine, use a wood floor cleaner recommended by the floor installer to restore the wood to its original beauty.

STEP #4: Clean Wood Floors the New and Improved Way

Completely skip the previous step, and modernize your floor cleaning regime with the ProMist™ MAX Spray Mop. The 180° dual-sided head allows for quick cleaning, plus the microfibre mop pad is reusable and machine-washable. (For best results, we recommend replacing your microfibre mop pad every 3 months.) Safely use the ProMist™ MAX on hardwood, tile, vinyl, laminate, ceramic, and marble surfaces.

STEP #5: Conceal Scratches

Scratches happen on hardwood floors, but they are easy to cover. After dry and wet mopping, simply take a crayon that matches your floor colour and gently rub it on the scratch. No crayons on hand? Most hardware and home improvement stores stock wood crayons in a variety of colours designed to fill in floor scratches. Be sure to bring a sample or picture of your wood floors to get the best colour match. After covering the scratch, heat the area using a hair dryer on the highest setting to set the wax. Finally, buff the area with a soft cloth.

STEP #6: Prevent Damage

To ensure your wood floors last for years to come, place doormats on either side of doorways to minimize the potential for bringing in dirt and moisture from outside. Another way to preserve your hardwood floors is to place felt or rubber protectors under furniture legs. Floor runners and large area rugs also help protect high-traffic areas from scuffs and scratches.

So, there you have it. Protect your investment by using these six simple steps to clean and maintain your wood floors so they stay gorgeous and glowing for years to come.
